Rating: Negative Type: ctamez sold item to Alien4320 Description: EVGA GTX 285 Comments: BEWARE- I have emails stating that he intentionaly lied to me has been fraudulant in his requests. This guy bought my card, used it, sold it, purchased it back, now wants a refund from me because he no longer wants it because of a fan issue. Read the details here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1482024 Response from Alien4320: Since Chris has decided on his own to make a spectacle out of his sale and post it here with the intent to discredit me and after advice from another forum member matrix563
to post a reply I decided to do so. I have nothing to hide. I am forum trader here as are many other people who are on forums. Chris sold me a card for $220. I was concerned a bit about the card as he said he got it from evga as a replacement for a 9800. RMA cards well sometimes are good and sometimes not. Right away after installing the card I noticed it was loud. I used GPUZ and discovered the RPM was over 3100 which is around 90% + fan. It constantly runs at that speed, you can change the fan% with evga precision or riva tuner and the rpm stays the same. I should have immediately demanded a refund but I didn't. After a couple of days I got frustrated with the card because of the fan noise. I use an open tech bench and not a case, so it is more problematic for me.
I contacted Chris about the fan problem. He told me that it is the way it was manufactured. I guess he thought I believed that was the case but I'm not stupid. He did say he would RMA it for me but never supplied the information. Well I didn’t really want to wait several weeks for a replacement or repaired card to be returned. So I decided to take a different route. I found someone who needed a 285 and was going to water cool it knowing that there was a problem with the fan being stuck . It was sold to Nick, he and I conversed at length about the condition of the card so he knew the condition of the card before buying. He thought he could fix the card so he purchased it. He didn’t have a problem with the fan as he was going to water cool it anyway. He said he did use a BIOS tool to see if he could find out what is wrong with the fan. This tool is like a motherboard BIOS where you can see and alter equipment settings. He couldn’t find anything that needed altering. Nick is a very technical and resourceful guy and has equipment to diagnose VGA cards. He found a bigger problem with the card as its performance was roughly ½ of what it should be. That’s when he contacted me. He made me aware of the problem and sent the Benchmark photos as proof. Nick confirmed that the card was sub-standard in its performance and fan. I agreed and refunded him.
After then having more proof that the card Chris sold me, not only had a defective fan but was performing badly which made me very angry. I was upset that I had paid $220 for a bogus card. Even though all of this took place it doesn’t change the fact that the card he sold me, is what EVGA sent him, is running at 9800 speeds not at what a 285 should run at. There was nothing that I did to it nor did Nick do to it. We just proved that the card is not what it should be. The card in fact does run, boots up fine and is useable. Any person who is knowledgeable of 285 performances would recognize these problems though.
Since Chris is the registered owner of this card only he can send this card for RMA which he should have done before selling it in the first place. It is not right to expect the new owner to go through the RMA process. He is continually digging for any reason to not refund the card even after he had agreed to. He has even accused me of purposely switching stickers on cards, switching his good card for a bad card, demanded that I send him pictures of the serial #'s of his card any my other Evga card and demanded I even send my EVGA registration to prove to him I didn't switch cards. Is there no end to this nightmare?
Bottom line is He knowingly sold a card with a bad fan, stating that it is the way it was manufactured which is not true at all. He claimed no knowledge of poor performance either. He stated that the card was 100% working which Nick and I have proven otherwise. Now he has posted this thread trying to harm me in some way. I have nothing against Chris but he should have disclosed the problems with it before the sale. I know if anyone else had bought the card they would be upset too. My heat is stellar. He doesn't even have 1 positive heat. | anfallgel | | | | |
